Moog

Strange how the death of its inventor should spark a minor war over how “Moog” is pronounced. I say “war”, but I mean “occasional domestic spat”.

“Moog”, as in “Vogue”? “Moog” as in “Google”? (without the “le”, obviously… I would’ve said “mood”, but Northerners can be strange. If you’re not strange, imagine I did say “mood”.)

On last night’s 6 o’clock news, a BBC reporter managed to use both pronunciations during the same sentence. Further news stories suggest that Mr. Moog did actually pronounce it as in “vogue”. The thing is, he might well have been labouring under the idiotic misapprehension that his name rhymed with “vogue”, but now he’s dead. So we can put his dopey nonsense to rest and continue rhyming it with “boog”, as in “boogie”.
