I underestimated how much I’ve forgotten about bikes. It took me an hour to change a tyre and inner tube yesterday evening, and I managed to puncture the new inner tube in the process. I’m sure I could do this when I was a child. I might buy some new wheels and put inner tubes and tyres on them, so if this arises again in the future, all I’ve got to do is release the wheels and replace them with the substitutes.
Alternatively, I could buy some extra bikes over ebay, allowing me to replace and discard a bike whenever something like this needs to be done. I nearly bought some special bike-cleaning spray in Halfords last night, before realising that I’ve never really got any dirt on my bike, due to under-use. I had the spray in my hand, and was walking towards the checkout before the futility of the purchase hit me on the back of the head. Instead, I bought a digital tyre pressure meter, for use with my now punctured inner tube. This means I can see how quickly it is deflating, which I’m sure is very useful.
